About the Role: Responsibilities, Skills, and Requirements

Ever thought about what it feels like to be the welcoming face (and organizational wizard) in a vibrant Dubai library? As a Library Assistant on Sheikh Zayed Road, you’ll be right where stories, learning, and community come together—helping visitors navigate their journeys, big and small. This isn’t just shelving books (though, let’s be honest, those neatly arranged rows are pretty satisfying); it’s about making every guest’s experience smooth, engaging, and memorable. If you enjoy a balance of quiet focus and helpful interaction—and want to be part of a cultural hub in the heart of Dubai—read on.

About the Company

Nestled among the heartbeats of the city’s business hub, our client’s library isn’t your average “shhh, no talking” spot. Here, curiosity and connection are the order of the day—whether it’s school groups discovering new worlds or entrepreneurs finding a quiet corner to brainstorm. The team is close-knit, proudly multicultural, and always ready with a good recommendation or a hot cup of tea (yes, there’s always tea somewhere). Growth is real here—be it stretching your admin skills or pitching in for a community event during reading week.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Welcoming visitors with a friendly, approachable attitude—making everyone feel at home right away
  • Assisting library members with check-in and check-out procedures, including scanning books and processing returns
  • Managing reservation systems and helping guests locate hard-to-find titles
  • Maintaining order and cleanliness in reading and study areas—sometimes straightening chairs, sometimes finding lost pencils
  • Handling basic clerical duties: data entry, phone calls, responding to emails, and occasionally untangling a stubborn paper jam
  • Supporting with event setup, from arranging seats for author talks to prepping craft materials for kids’ workshops
  • Keeping an eye out for process improvements (your suggestions are always welcome!)
  • Liaising with other team members on stock management and library updates

What You’ll Bring

Must-Haves

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills—English is a must; fluency in another language is a plus
  • Basic administrative experience (anything from a school office to retail will help)
  • Comfortable with computers and library software (we’ll show you the ropes, but being tech-friendly counts)
  • Attention to detail—alphabetizing isn’t everyone’s calling, but you kind of love it
  • Respectful, calm approach even when it’s busy or there’s a queue at the desk

Nice-to-Haves

  • Previous experience in a library, educational, or customer service setting
  • Arabic language skills
  • An enthusiasm for books, learning, or community events

Not sure you tick every box? We’d still love to hear from you.

Why You’ll Love Working Here (Benefits & Perks)

  • 2-year residency permit and formal employment contract (peace of mind, sorted)
  • Monthly salary AED 4,000 – 4,500, plus other benefits
  • Supportive, friendly team—where everyone chips in and celebrates small wins
  • Regular opportunities to take part in workshops, community projects, and cultural events
  • Central location on Sheikh Zayed Road with easy metro access
  • Flexible holiday policy and understanding when life needs juggling
  • Continuous training and learning opportunities—you’ll get to broaden your skillset and confidence

You’ll be part of a unique space where every week brings something new—a children’s story hour, a roaming historian, or an inspiring local author. If you’re passionate about helping others, love a well-organized environment, and want to make a difference in people’s lives—this could be your next chapter.

Common Interview Questions and Tips

To help you prepare and feel confident, here are some questions you might encounter during the interview process for this role.

  • How comfortable are you with using library or reservation management software, and what types of technology have you worked with in previous roles?
  • Imagine it’s a particularly busy afternoon with a long line at the desk. How do you stay calm and organized while making sure everyone feels attended to?
  • Describe a time you spotted a way to improve a process in your workplace. What did you suggest, and what was the outcome?
  • In our library, teamwork plays a big part—can you share an example of how you supported colleagues to achieve a common goal?
  • Suppose a guest is struggling to find a specific book or resource that is currently checked out. How would you handle their request and ensure they leave satisfied?
  • Sometimes, you might have to deal with event setup—like arranging chairs for a last-minute author talk. How would you balance this alongside your usual tasks?
  • What strategies do you use to keep reading, study, and communal spaces well-organized and welcoming, especially during busy times?
  • Have you worked with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures? How do you ensure your communication is clear and inclusive?
  • What attracts you to working in a library setting, and how do your own interests in books or learning influence your role as a Library Assistant?
  • Our team thrives on support and celebrating little wins together. How do you like to contribute to a positive atmosphere at work?
  • Can you tell us about a time you had to resolve a small but tricky problem for a guest—like a lost item or technical issue? What steps did you take to help?
  • Why do you think a library—especially one in a diverse city center—plays an important role in the wider community?
