About the Role: Responsibilities, Skills, and Requirements
Ever found yourself being the go-to tech problem solver among your friends—or maybe your colleagues? Imagine bringing that same resourcefulness and cool-headed calm to an early-stage startup where your impact is felt every single day. We're looking for an IT Administrator who wants to own all things IT, from keeping our systems humming to helping teammates conquer any tech hiccup. At our Dubai office, you won’t be another cog in the wheel; you’ll be the engine keeping us running, supporting a close-knit team of under 50, and reporting directly to management.
About the Company
We’re a young, adaptable company that believes good ideas (and solutions) can come from anywhere, not just the corner office. Our workspace is open, collaborative, and always buzzing—from spontaneous brainstorming sessions to Friday lunches that occasionally get a little competitive (team leaderboard, anyone?). The pace is brisk, the energy is high, and your voice here has as much weight as anyone’s. There’s room to experiment, learn, and shape how technology supports our growth journey in the UAE market.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Administer Windows Server and Exchange environments, handling everything from user provisioning to updates and troubleshooting.
- Take the reins of our Microsoft 365 tenant: manage security protocols, assign licenses, onboard/offboard users, and support our cloud-first approach.
- Oversee file server permissions, storage, and backup routines to keep company data secure yet accessible.
- Troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day user issues—from “I can’t print!” panic moments to more complex network concerns.
- Maintain our internal phone system and ensure seamless connectivity, coordinating with vendors when hardware or service issues arise.
- Look after our website infrastructure (don’t worry, you won’t need to design), keeping uptime and performance in check.
- Serve as the face of IT—participate in planning, report directly to management, and recommend improvements as we grow.
What You’ll Bring
Must-Haves:
- Hands-on experience managing Windows Server, Exchange, and Microsoft 365 environments.
- Skill with user and file permission management, backup systems, and basic IT security best practices.
- A knack for solving problems calmly—whether in person or over the phone.
- Comfort juggling support tickets, system maintenance, and strategy input all in a single day.
- Excellent English communication; clear, patient, and pragmatic.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Familiarity with phone system administration (VoIP, PBX).
- Some experience with website infrastructure or simple site management.
- Previous experience working in a startup or small business environment.
Not sure you tick every box? We’d still love to hear from you.
Why You’ll Love Working Here
- On-site in Dubai with a supportive, energetic team—collaboration happens in real time, not just over chat.
- Autonomy and trust: you’re the expert, and we put faith in your judgment and ideas.
- Tech budget flexibility: if you need tools, we believe in investing to make your work smarter, not harder.
- Career growth: as the company scales, your role, responsibilities, and influence will grow right along with us.
- Casual, welcoming culture: no rigid hierarchies, open-door management, and a shared sense of purpose.
You’ll join us at a pivotal stage, helping shape an IT backbone that’s modern, efficient, and ready for whatever the future brings. If you thrive in an environment where days are rarely the same and your work truly matters, you might just find your next home here.
Common Interview Questions and Tips
To help you prepare and feel confident, here are some questions you might encounter during the interview process for this role.
- Can you walk us through your typical process for setting up and managing a new user in both Windows Server and Microsoft 365 environments?
- How have you handled escalated tech issues in the past, especially when a critical system or service went down unexpectedly?
- What strategies do you use to ensure file server permissions are both secure and easy for staff to navigate?
- Describe your experience with backup routines—what tools or methods have you found most reliable for data protection?
- Tell us about a time you resolved a user issue under pressure, for example when someone couldn’t access email or print at a crucial moment.
- Have you ever been solely responsible for maintaining an Exchange or 365 tenant? How did you keep on top of updates, security, and user changes?
- What steps would you take if you noticed our website was slow or experiencing downtime, even though you're not designing it?
- How do you prioritize your workload when support tickets, system maintenance, and management requests all come in at once?
- Think of a time you had to coordinate with an external vendor to resolve a tech issue. How did you ensure things got fixed smoothly?
- In a small, open team like ours, how do you balance being approachable with keeping on top of your technical responsibilities?
- What’s your approach to communicating technical information to team members who don’t have an IT background?
- Can you share an example of a technology improvement or change you recommended at a previous job? What was the outcome?
- What excites you about working in an energetic, close-knit startup setting rather than a big corporate environment?
- Given the autonomy offered here, how do you stay proactive about identifying issues or opportunities without much oversight?
