About the Role: Responsibilities, Skills, and Requirements

Ever pictured yourself as the eyes and ears on a bustling construction site, ensuring precision and quality at every stage? Here’s your chance to step into a pivotal role as a Civil Engineer (Site Supervision) with an engineering consultancy known for its hands-on approach. In today’s ever-evolving construction industry, on-site expertise isn’t just valuable — it’s essential. This opportunity is ideal for a civil engineer who enjoys a healthy mix of on-the-ground action and technical challenge, making a real impact on live projects every day.

About the Company

We’re a growing engineering consultancy office with a reputation for excellence—and a little bit of a perfectionist streak when it comes to structural integrity. Our team is built on open communication (weekly site huddles with real talk, not just checklists), professional growth, and the belief that the best solutions come from those who see the project from the dirt up. We support each other, celebrate safely delivered projects, and yes—sometimes get competitive about who’s had the muddiest boots by week’s end.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Overseeing day-to-day construction activities on assigned project sites, ensuring all work strictly follows approved structural drawings and specifications
  • Coordinating closely with contractors, site workers, and project managers to resolve on-site issues quickly and efficiently
  • Conducting regular inspections and quality checks, documenting progress, and flagging any discrepancies or safety risks
  • Preparing and submitting clear, concise site reports and progress updates for the consultancy office and client
  • Attending site meetings and actively participating in discussions about construction challenges and solutions
  • Acting as a technical resource for the site team, clarifying design intent and standards when needed
  • Keeping a sharp eye on timelines and proactively addressing anything that could slow down the project

What You’ll Bring

Must-Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in site supervision for construction projects
  • Hands-on familiarity with reading and interpreting structural drawings and technical documents
  • Quick problem-solving skills and confident decision-making when unexpected challenges arise
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills (you know how to keep a team moving together)
  • Practical understanding of safety standards and best practices on a construction site

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience working with engineering consultancies
  • Familiarity with local building codes and regulations
  • Competency with site reporting tools or basic project management software

Not sure you tick every box? We’d still love to hear from you.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • Competitive salary package (we believe in rewarding expertise and effort)
  • Supportive team culture—no lone wolves here, just real collaboration
  • Opportunities to work on a diverse mix of projects (from the straightforward to the seriously complex)
  • Personal growth and mentorship from experienced senior engineers
  • Regular site team breakfasts and the occasional after-hours catch-up
  • Commitment to your safety and well-being

You’ll join a team where your input genuinely matters and every day brings something just a little different. If you’re ready to see your engineering skills in action—and go home feeling you made a difference—this is where you want to be.

Common Interview Questions and Tips

To help you prepare and feel confident, here are some questions you might encounter during the interview process for this role.

  • Can you walk us through your process for reviewing and interpreting structural drawings on-site, and how you ensure their accurate implementation during construction?
  • Tell us about a time when you encountered a major discrepancy between a site’s actual conditions and the approved construction plans. How did you handle it?
  • What steps do you typically take to ensure all daily construction activities adhere to quality standards and safety regulations?
  • Describe a situation where you needed to clarify technical design intent for site workers or contractors. How did you approach the communication to ensure clarity for everyone?
  • How do you document and report progress and site issues to both the consultancy office and the client? What tools or systems have you found effective for this?
  • What methods do you use to identify and address safety risks during daily site inspections?
  • Imagine a day when several work fronts are progressing but an unexpected obstacle threatens your timeline. How would you prioritize actions and communicate with your team to keep the project on track?
  • Can you share an example of how you successfully collaborated with a contractor or project manager to resolve an on-site challenge?
  • In your previous experience, how have you contributed to a team culture of open communication and proactive problem-solving?
  • What motivates you the most about working in the field as opposed to a purely office-based engineering role?
  • How do you stay updated on building codes, regulations, and best practices for civil construction in your region?
  • Our team values both personal initiative and peer support. How do you balance taking ownership of your responsibilities with leaning on your team when needed?
  • What are your strategies for managing stress or tight deadlines in a dynamic construction environment?
  • What drew you to a consultancy environment, and how do you see yourself making a difference on multidisciplinary projects?
