About the Role: Responsibilities, Skills, and Requirements
Introduction
Ever walked past a sleek, modern building and wondered who supplied those flawless, floor-to-ceiling aluminum facades? That could be you — or rather, the projects you open doors for. We’re looking for a Business Development & Outdoor Sales Executive who thrives on the energy of the construction world, someone who isn’t afraid to trade the desk for the driver’s seat. This is a role for a hunter, a relationship-builder, and someone who genuinely enjoys the puzzle of getting a premium product specified into a landmark project. If you like the idea of seeing your work literally shape a city’s skyline, this might just be your next move.
About the Company
We’re a specialized supplier of high-end aluminum doors and window systems — the kind of products that architects lose sleep over getting right. We’re not a massive, faceless corporation; we’re a tight-knit team of industry veterans who take pride in precision, quality, and the relationships we’ve built over the years. While the construction sector can feel chaotic, we’ve built our name on being the reliable, technically-sound partner that contractors and consultants actually enjoy working with. We value initiative over hand-holding, and we celebrate the wins — big and small — because we know that in this business, every registered vendor list and every approved submittal is a small victory worth acknowledging.
What You’ll Be Doing
This isn’t a role where you’ll be chained to a CRM all day. You’ll be out there, in the thick of it, connecting the dots between our products and the projects that need them. Your day-to-day will involve a healthy mix of strategic legwork and technical paperwork. Here’s a taste of what you’ll own:
- Hunt down and register our aluminum systems with key contractors and engineering consultants — this is your bread and butter, the foundation for everything else.
- Get us on the list — you’ll manage the full prequalification process, ensuring our company is an approved vendor with all the major players in the region.
- Prepare and submit all necessary registration documents, making sure we’re compliant, complete, and looking sharp on paper.
- Hit the road to visit active project sites, scouting for new opportunities and sniffing out potential clients before the competition even knows they exist.
- Chase down RFQs (Requests for Quotation) and take the lead on preparing accurate, competitive quotations that win us the job.
- Build genuine rapport with consultants and contractors, becoming their go-to contact for anything related to aluminum systems.
What You’ll Bring
We care less about your exact degree and more about your drive and your ability to open doors — literally and figuratively. The construction industry is a people business, and we need someone who gets that. Here’s what we’re looking for:
Must-Haves:
- Proven experience in outdoor sales or business development, ideally within the construction, building materials, or aluminum fabrication industry.
- A solid understanding of how the specification and tendering process works — you know your way around a BOQ and a set of drawings.
- A confident, polished communicator who can hold their own in a meeting with a senior project manager or a lead architect.
- A self-starter mentality; you’re comfortable working independently and managing your own schedule to hit targets.
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle — you’ll be covering a lot of ground.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Existing relationships with contractors or consultants in the region.
- A technical eye for reading architectural drawings or understanding system profiles.
- Experience with CRM tools or a structured approach to tracking your sales pipeline.
Not sure you tick every box? We’d still love to hear from you — passion and a willingness to learn can sometimes outweigh a perfectly polished CV.
Why You’ll Love Working Here
Let’s be real — sales roles can be a grind. But we try to make it worth your while, both in terms of compensation and culture.
- Competitive base salary with a performance-based incentive structure that actually rewards your hustle.
- Autonomy and trust — we hired you for your expertise, so we’re not going to micromanage your calendar.
- Real career growth — as we expand our client base, you’ll have the opportunity to grow into senior sales or management roles.
- A supportive team that shares leads, insights, and war stories from the field — you’re not in this alone.
- The satisfaction of seeing projects come to life, knowing you played a key part in getting them off the ground.
At the end of the day, we’re looking for someone who wants to build a career, not just fill a position. If you’re ready to put in the miles and reap the rewards, we’d love to talk.
Common Interview Questions and Tips
To help you prepare and feel confident, here are some questions you might encounter during the interview process for this role.
Walk me through your experience getting a product specified into a project — what was your most creative approach to getting a consultant or architect to even take the meeting?
How do you go about identifying which contractors and consultants are worth registering with first? What’s your triage process when you have a list of fifty potential targets and only so many hours in a week?
You’ve got a project site visit scheduled for 10 AM, a prequalification deadline at noon, and an RFQ that needs a quote by end of day. How do you structure your day to make sure nothing falls through the cracks?
Tell me about a time you walked into a meeting with a senior project manager or lead architect and they were skeptical of your product or your company. How did you turn that conversation around?
When you’re preparing a quotation from a BOQ and a set of drawings, what’s your process for making sure you haven’t missed anything? Have you ever caught a costly mistake before submitting — what happened?
Describe a situation where you had to chase down an RFQ or a decision-maker who kept ghosting you. What did you do to finally get a response, and did it win you the job?
What does “building genuine rapport” mean to you in a B2B construction context? Can you give me an example of a relationship you built that went beyond just transactional business?
This role is heavy on autonomy — no one’s going to check your mileage or your call logs. How do you stay disciplined and motivated when you’re working solo most of the day?
Think back to a deal or a project you really wanted but ultimately lost to a competitor. What did you take away from that loss, and what did you change in your approach afterward?
Aluminum systems are a technical product — profiles, thermal breaks, tolerances, system compatibility. How comfortable are you getting into the weeds technically with a consultant, and what’
