About the Role: Responsibilities, Skills, and Requirements
Build Something That Touches the Sky — And Keep It Safe While You Do It
Ever looked up at a high-rise under construction and wondered who’s actually up there, orchestrating the heavy lift with millimetre precision? That’s a luffing tower crane operator — and right now, we’re looking for one to join a major high-rise project in Dubai. This isn’t a role for someone who wants to blend into the background; it’s for someone who understands that every smooth lift starts with a steady hand and a sharp eye. If you’ve mastered the luffing jib and you’re ready for your next challenge in one of the world’s most demanding construction markets, keep reading.
Who We Are
We’re a leading construction company with a reputation built on delivering complex, high-profile projects across the UAE — and we’ve done it by putting safety and skill above everything else. Our site teams are tight-knit, our standards are high, and our operators are treated as the professionals they are. Friday mornings usually start with a quick toolbox talk and a strong coffee, and by the end of the week, you’ll see the skyline shift because of the work you’ve done.
We’re not a company that throws people onto a site and hopes for the best. We invest in our crews, we listen when something doesn’t feel right, and we back our operators with the support they need to do the job properly. If that sounds like the kind of place you want to hang your hard hat, you’ll fit right in.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Operating a luffing jib tower crane on a busy high-rise construction site, handling everything from steel and precast panels to concrete skips and formwork.
- Working closely with riggers, banksmen, and site supervisors to plan and execute lifts safely — no guessing, no shortcuts.
- Conducting pre-operational checks and routine inspections, and flagging anything that needs attention before it becomes a problem.
- Adjusting the jib radius with precision as loads change, especially when working near adjacent structures or tight site boundaries.
- Following lift plans to the letter and speaking up if site conditions shift in a way that affects the lift.
- Keeping your cab clean, your logbook current, and your communication clear — because a crane operator who talks to the ground team is a crane operator who keeps everyone safe.
What You’ll Bring
Must-Haves:
- Solid, hands-on experience operating luffing jib tower cranes — you know the difference between a smooth slew and a jerky one, and you know why it matters.
- A valid crane operator license or competency certificate recognised in the UAE.
- A strong grasp of lifting operations, load charts, and site safety procedures — you don’t just follow the rules, you understand why they exist.
- Comfort working at height on high-rise projects, with the focus and stamina that demands.
- Good spoken English for clear radio communication with your team. Arabic or Hindi is a bonus, but not a dealbreaker.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience on projects in the GCC region.
- Familiarity with different crane brands and control systems.
- A track record of working on fast-paced sites where coordination is everything.
Not sure you tick every box? We’d still love to hear from you. Skills can be sharpened; attitude and safety-first thinking can’t be taught.
Why You’ll Love Working Here
- Competitive pay that reflects your experience and the responsibility you carry every day.
- Accommodation and transport provided, so you’re not worrying about the commute after a long shift.
- Health insurance and annual leave that meets UAE labour law — and then some.
- A safety culture that’s real, not just posters on a wall. If a lift doesn’t feel right, you have the authority to stop it.
- Career progression — we’ve promoted operators into supervisory and lift-planning roles, and we’d love to do the same for you.
- A team that respects your skill. You’re not just a pair of hands on a joystick; you’re a critical part of how we deliver.
At the end of the day, this is a job for someone who takes pride in precision and understands that a crane is only as good as the person operating it. If you’re ready to bring your luffing jib experience to a project that will challenge and reward you, we’re ready to talk.
Common Interview Questions and Tips
To help you prepare and feel confident, here are some questions you might encounter during the interview process for this role.
- Walk me through how you approach a typical lift using a luffing jib crane — from the moment you receive the lift plan to the moment the load is set down.
- How do you adjust the jib radius when you're working near an adjacent structure or a tight site boundary, and what signals tell you it's time to slow down?
- Tell me about a time you spotted a problem during your pre-operational checks that others had missed. What did you do, and what was the outcome?
- What's your process for reading a load chart when the configuration isn't straightforward — say, a long radius pick with a load that's close to the limit?
- How do you keep radio communication with riggers and banksmen clear when the site is loud and things are moving fast?
- Describe a lift that didn't go to plan. What shifted, and how did you handle it in the moment?
- Have you ever refused or stopped a lift because something didn't feel right? Walk me through what happened and how it was received.
- If a supervisor pushes you to complete a lift faster than you're comfortable with, how do you handle that conversation?
- What does a safe day on site look like to you, beyond just following the rules?
- You'll be working closely with riggers, banksmen, and supervisors from different backgrounds. How do you build trust with a ground team you've just met?
- What's kept you operating tower cranes rather than moving into a different role on site?
- Tell me about a time you mentored or helped train a less experienced operator or crew member. What did you focus on?
- This role involves long shifts at height on a fast-paced high-rise project. How do you manage your focus and stamina over a demanding week?
