About the Role: Responsibilities, Skills, and Requirements
Front-of-House Stars Wanted — Al Garhoud, Dubai
Ever walked into a café and felt the whole place hum? That quiet choreography — orders flying, tables turning, guests smiling — doesn't happen by accident. It happens because someone on the floor is leading it. We're building out the front-of-house team at our café and restaurant in Al Garhoud, and we're looking for a Restaurant Supervisor, a Captain Waiter, and Waiters to join us right away. If you've done this work before and you're ready to start now, keep reading — this one's for you.
About Us
We're a busy café and restaurant in the heart of Al Garhoud, the kind of spot where regulars know the staff by name and the lunch rush is a beautiful kind of chaos. We're a tight crew — no corporate layers, no red tape. The person who trains you on Monday might be having coffee with you on Friday. We're growing, which means the people who join us now won't stay in the same role forever. If you show up, work hard, and care about the guest experience, there's room to move up here.
What You'll Be Doing
Restaurant Supervisor
- Run the floor during shifts — assigning sections, pacing service, and keeping the energy steady even when the house is full
- Handle guest concerns before they become complaints, and know when to step in and when to let your team shine
- Open and close the restaurant, manage cash-ups, and keep daily operations tight
- Coach waiters on service standards — not from a clipboard, but shoulder to shoulder
- Coordinate with the kitchen when things get hectic, because timing is everything
Captain Waiter
- Lead your section like it's your own — greet guests, take orders, and make sure every table feels looked after
- Support the waiters around you, jump in when someone's swamped, and set the tone for service
- Know the menu inside out, from allergen details to what pairs well with what
- Step up for the Supervisor when needed — you're the bridge between the floor and the pass
Waiters
- Welcome guests warmly, take orders accurately, and serve with a genuine smile (the kind you can't fake)
- Keep your section clean, stocked, and ready — tables turned, condiments filled, stations tidy
- Learn the menu fast and speak about it with confidence
- Work as part of the team — help a colleague bus a table, refill a water glass, whatever it takes
- Handle busy periods with grace; we get slammed at peak times, and that's when you shine
What You'll Bring
Must-Haves
- Previous restaurant experience — this isn't an entry-level role, and we'll ask about it
- Immediate availability to join — we need people on the floor now, not next month
- A real comfort level with fast-paced service; if you've never worked a Friday dinner rush, this might not be the fit
- Basic English communication — enough to take orders and talk to guests with confidence
- Valid visa status that allows you to work in the UAE
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience in cafés or casual dining (fine dining works too — we'll train the style)
- A second language — Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Tagalog, or anything else you speak
- Any food safety or hospitality training certificates
Any nationality is welcome — we hire people, not passports. Not sure you tick every box? We'd still love to hear from you.
Why You'll Love Working Here
- Salary provided, plus food — one less thing to worry about every day
- 10-hour duty with the structure and rhythm of a proper shift schedule
- Al Garhoud location — well-connected and easy to reach by metro or bus
- Immediate joining — no endless waiting around; if you're the right fit, you start
- A team that actually gets along — we spend a lot of hours together, so we hire people we like
- Room to grow — waiters become captains, captains become supervisors; we've seen it happen
Look, hospitality isn't for everyone. It's long hours, sore feet, and the occasional difficult guest. But it's also the satisfaction of a full house running smoothly, regulars who ask for you by name, and a team that has your back when the rush hits. If that sounds like your kind of work, we'd genuinely love to meet you.
Common Interview Questions and Tips
To help you prepare and feel confident, here are some questions you might encounter during the interview process for this role.
- Walk me through how you run a full Friday dinner rush from the moment you step on the floor — what are you checking first, and how do you keep service moving when the kitchen starts falling behind?
- A guest at table 12 has been waiting nearly 25 minutes and their patience is gone. You can see the kitchen is buried. What do you actually do in that moment?
- How do you decide when to step in and handle a guest complaint yourself versus coaching one of your waiters through it?
- Tell me about your experience with cash-ups and opening or closing a restaurant. What does your closing checklist look like?
- For our Captain candidates: how do you keep an eye on your own section while still supporting the waiters around you?
- How well do you know wine and food pairings, and how do you handle a guest asking about allergens you're not 100% sure of?
- Describe a shift where everything went wrong — a callout, a rude guest, a late delivery, whatever it was. How did you hold it together?
- Tell me about a time you had to coach someone on your team who wasn't meeting service standards. How did you approach it?
- You notice a colleague is clearly overwhelmed during peak service. What do you do, and how do you do it without stepping on their toes?
- Have you ever had a regular guest request you specifically by name? What do you think earned that?
- This role is a 10-hour duty with a proper shift schedule, and it gets genuinely chaotic at peak times. What keeps you steady when the pressure doesn't let up?
- We're a tight crew with no corporate layers — the person who trains you on Monday might be having coffee with you on Friday. How do you fit into a team like that?
- What languages do you speak, and how have you used them to make guests feel more comfortable?
- Why this café, and why now? What are you actually looking for
