About the Role: Responsibilities, Skills, and Requirements

Introduction

Are you fascinated by skyscrapers and the collaborative magic it takes to make them stand tall against the Dubai skyline? If you thrive on technical challenges and have a knack for translating complex designs into reality, our Technical Structural Engineer position might be exactly what you’re looking for. This role is all about blending deep technical expertise with hands-on site coordination, and there’s never been a more dynamic time to shape the future of high-rise construction in Dubai.

About the Company

We’re not your average engineering consultancy. Our team is built on trust, a spirit of innovation, and an eagerness to push boundaries (both literal and figurative). From weekly brainstorming sessions to quick on-site lunches with contractors, collaboration here is constant—and so is the sense of progress. While we’re proud of our track record delivering some of Dubai’s most recognizable high-rises, it’s our friendly, can-do atmosphere that keeps ambitious engineers staying and growing with us for years.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Designing structural systems for high-rise buildings, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes, safety standards, and client requirements.
  • Preparing and reviewing detailed shop drawings and bar bending schedules (BBS) with precision and a laser focus on constructibility.
  • Coordinating closely with architects, MEP teams, and contractors—sometimes on busy construction sites, sometimes over a quick coffee in the project office.
  • Troubleshooting on-site structural issues and providing pragmatic, timely technical solutions in real-time.
  • Liaising directly with suppliers and fabricators to ensure materials and components match specifications—no last-minute surprises.
  • Participating in design and project review meetings, providing clear input and capturing feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Supporting junior engineers and drafters, reviewing calculations, and helping foster a learning-centric environment.

What You’ll Bring

Must-Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (Master’s a plus)
  • 5+ years of structural engineering experience, with a proven track record on high-rise building projects (preferably in Dubai or the wider GCC)
  • Strong command of structural analysis and design software (ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000, AutoCAD, Revit Structure, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience preparing shop drawings and bar bending schedules
  • Familiarity with Dubai municipality codes, international design standards, and site coordination protocols
  • Excellent communication skills, both at the drawing board and in dynamic on-site discussions

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience working with multinational project teams or major consultancies
  • Background in Value Engineering or construction claims resolution
  • Deep interest in emerging building materials or sustainable construction practices

Not sure you tick every box? We’d still love to hear from you.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • Hybrid work model: Enjoy a mix of office, site, and remote work that keeps things fresh.
  • Competitive compensation tailored to Dubai’s cost of living.
  • Generous paid leave plus extra days during major holidays.
  • Professional development budget—attend that conference or pick up a new certification with our support.
  • Health and wellness coverage (yes, including dental and vision).
  • Hearty recognition for both individual and team achievements (expect more than a pat on the back).
  • A team that takes pride in building great things and celebrating milestones, large and small.

At our company, you won’t just work on high-rises—you’ll help elevate the skyline and your career, surrounded by fellow engineers who are as passionate about progress as you are.

Common Interview Questions and Tips

To help you prepare and feel confident, here are some questions you might encounter during the interview process for this role.

  • Can you walk us through a recent high-rise project you worked on, detailing your approach to structural design and how you ensured compliance with relevant codes and safety standards?
  • Describe your experience preparing shop drawings and bar bending schedules. What steps do you take to make sure they’re accurate and constructible?
  • Which structural analysis and design software platforms are you most fluent in, and how have you used them to solve complex engineering problems on past high-rise projects?
  • How do you coordinate with MEP engineers, architects, and contractors during the design and construction phases to address interdisciplinary challenges?
  • Have you ever encountered a significant on-site structural issue? Tell us about the situation and the solution you developed.
  • In your experience, how important is Value Engineering to the structural design process, and can you provide an example where you applied these principles to benefit a project?
  • How do you ensure that materials supplied by vendors or fabricators conform to project specifications, and what strategies do you use to prevent last-minute discrepancies?
  • Tell us about a time you had to give technical feedback to a junior team member or drafter. How do you balance mentoring with maintaining project quality?
  • When you're juggling inputs from multiple stakeholders—clients, contractors, consultants—how do you prioritize and communicate to keep everyone aligned?
  • Give an example of a time when quick thinking and clear communication helped resolve an on-site issue under tight deadlines.
  • Our team thrives on innovation and brainstorming. What approaches have you personally found effective for fostering collaboration and creative problem-solving within a diverse team?
  • How do you keep up with changes in Dubai’s building codes and international design standards, and how have those updates influenced your work recently?
  • What motivates you about working in a setting where days alternate between collaborative office time, fast-paced construction sites, and some remote flexibility?
  • Describe how you approach your own professional development and how you like to support others’ learning within an engineering team.

Market-Based Salary Overview and Analysis

You should expect a salary of at least 15,000–22,000 AED per month for a mid- to senior-level Technical Structural Engineer role focused on high-rise projects in Dubai, especially if you bring five or more years of local or GCC experience and strong software skills. Similar roles in reputable engineering consultancies often offer packages within this range, sometimes higher if you have advanced qualifications or specialist expertise in high-rise design and site coordination. Make sure to also consider additional benefits and allowances as part of your total compensation package.
