About the Role: Responsibilities, Skills, and Requirements
Ever found yourself lost in the rows of a well-run bookstore, wondering what it takes to keep the shelves full, the staff upbeat, and the customers coming back? As our next Branch Manager for our stationery and bookstore locations, you’ll be at the center of all that literary magic. This isn’t just about numbers—it’s about creating a welcoming space, nurturing a tight-knit team, and making sure our branches thrive in today’s ever-evolving retail world.
About the Company
We’re more than just stationery and stacks of books—think of us as a community hub for readers, artists, and lifelong learners. Our branches have been serving neighborhoods for years, always aiming to blend classic charm with smart modernization. We’re big believers in staff voices shaping our approach (yes, “let’s try it your way” really happens here), and if you love themed window displays or spontaneous team book swaps, you’ll fit right in. Despite our growth, we still hold on to our small-company camaraderie—Friday afternoons might find us debating the best pen brands over coffee.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Guiding your team—whether it's hiring, training, or simply pep-talking before a store event—so everyone feels confident and valued.
- Keeping a close eye on inventory, ensuring our shelves are stocked with both bestsellers and hidden gems (because yes, that one teacher will come looking for a particular notebook).
- Rolling up your sleeves to hit store targets, review sales performance, and jump in when the floor gets busy.
- Working with central management on reports, forecasts, and initiatives that keep our branches ahead of the curve.
- Handling customer concerns with a cool head—solving small hiccups before they become big ones.
- Spotting opportunities for merchandising magic, community outreach, or unique in-store experiences that set us apart.
- Managing day-to-day operations, from scheduling to safety checks and everything in between.
What You’ll Bring
Must-Haves:
- Prior experience managing a branch or leading in a busy retail environment.
- Strong leadership skills—you can rally a team and address issues with fairness and empathy.
- Solid organizational chops: juggling inventory, staffing, and admin comes naturally to you.
- Comfort with standard computer applications (Excel, point-of-sale systems, email) and a knack for prepping clear reports.
- A talent for staying calm and decisive on whirlwind days.
Nice-to-Haves:
- A love of books, stationery, or the world of learning (if you geek out over fountain pens or literary trivia, we get it).
- Experience introducing new retail initiatives, from reading nooks to artist showcases.
- Familiarity with basic bookkeeping or budgeting.
Not sure you tick every box? We’d still love to hear from you.
Why You’ll Love Working Here
- Competitive salary plus performance-based incentives (we believe in celebrating wins, big and small).
- Supportive, people-first culture where your feedback genuinely shapes our direction.
- Flexible schedule options—and yes, a generous staff discount for those must-have reads and desk upgrades.
- Opportunities for real career growth, whether you dream of running multiple branches or launching head office specials.
- A team that remembers birthdays, loves a good in-store event, and values work-life balance.
This is more than a management job—it’s a chance to bring your retail expertise into a place where ideas are welcome and every day feels a little bit like storytime. If you’re passionate about creating a great experience for staff and customers alike, we think you’ll love it here.
