About the Role: Responsibilities, Skills, and Requirements
Introduction
Ever walked into a room and felt the difference a perfectly laid floor makes? That seamless transition between rooms, the way light catches a well-finished parquet pattern — it’s a craft, plain and simple. We’re on the lookout for someone who takes pride in that kind of work. Our maintenance and renovation company is growing faster than we expected, and we need skilled flooring specialists who can step in, hit the ground running, and help us deliver the kind of quality our clients have come to expect. If you’ve got the hands-on experience and the drive to match, this could be a great fit.
About the Company
We’re not a faceless corporation — we’re a tight-knit team of renovation and maintenance pros who’ve built our reputation one project at a time. Over the years, we’ve handled everything from small residential touch-ups to full commercial fit-outs, and our clients stick with us because we show up, we communicate, and we get the job done right. The atmosphere here is collaborative but independent; we trust our people to manage their time and their tools, and in return, we offer steady work and a crew that actually gets along. No micromanaging, no unnecessary drama — just good people doing solid work.
What You’ll Be Doing (Responsibilities)
- Installing vinyl, parquet, laminate, and wooden flooring across a variety of residential and commercial sites — each project brings its own quirks, and we need someone who can adapt on the fly.
- Preparing subfloors to ensure a smooth, level base before any installation begins. You know the drill — if the prep isn’t right, the finish never will be.
- Measuring, cutting, and fitting materials with precision, minimizing waste while maintaining that clean, professional look.
- Working as a tiles mason when needed — laying ceramic, porcelain, or natural stone tiles with the same attention to detail you’d give any other surface.
- Reading and following site instructions carefully, whether that means coordinating with a project manager or working directly with a client who has a specific vision in mind.
- Maintaining your tools and keeping the workspace tidy — a clean site is a safe site, and it reflects well on all of us.
What You’ll Bring (Qualifications)
Must-Haves:
- Proven experience in vinyl, parquet, laminate, and wooden flooring installation — we’re not looking for someone who’s just dabbled; we want someone who’s done this day in and day out.
- Tile masonry skills — you’re comfortable with cutting, laying, and finishing tiles to a high standard.
- The ability to work independently — you’ll often be on-site without constant supervision, so you need to be self-motivated and confident in your decisions.
- Reliability and punctuality — we schedule projects around our team, and we need people who show up when they say they will.
- Good communication skills — you can read instructions, ask the right questions, and keep the team informed of any issues that come up.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience with screeding and floor leveling compounds — it’s a bonus if you can handle the prep work from start to finish.
- Knowledge of acoustic underlays or heated flooring systems — those requests are becoming more common these days.
- A valid driver’s license and access to your own transportation — it makes site-to-site travel a lot easier.
Not sure you tick every box? We’d still love to hear from you. If you’ve got the core skills and the right attitude, we’re happy to fill in the gaps together.
Why You’ll Love Working Here (Benefits & Perks)
- Immediate start — we’re hiring because we have projects lined up, not because we’re planning for the future. You can be on-site within days if you’re ready.
- Steady, consistent work — our pipeline is full, and we’re not the kind of company that leaves you wondering where the next paycheck is coming from.
- Competitive pay based on experience and skill level — we believe good work deserves fair compensation, and we’re happy to discuss rates upfront.
- A supportive team environment — whether you need advice on a tricky cut or an extra pair of hands for a heavy sheet of vinyl, someone’s got your back.
- Room to grow — as we expand, there’s potential for lead roles and higher responsibilities for those who show initiative and reliability.
At the end of the day, we’re looking for someone who takes pride in their craft and wants to be part of a team that feels the same way. If that sounds like you, we’d love to talk.
Common Interview Questions and Tips
To help you prepare and feel confident, here are some questions you might encounter during the interview process for this role.
- Walk me through your process for prepping a subfloor before installing vinyl or laminate — what are the non-negotiables for you, and where do you see guys cut corners that come back to bite later?
- Tell me about a time you had to switch between flooring types mid-project, like going from wood to tile in the same space. How did you manage the transition and keep the finish looking seamless?
- How do you handle measuring and cutting when you're dealing with an irregular room — odd angles, doorways, or walls that aren't perfectly square? What's your approach to minimizing waste while keeping it looking clean?
- When you're laying tile, how do you ensure your layout stays level and aligned across a larger area? Walk me through your process from start to finish.
- Have you worked with acoustic underlays or heated flooring systems? If so, what did you learn about installing over or around them that caught you off guard the first time?
- You're on-site solo and realize the subfloor has more moisture than expected, which could compromise the install. What do you do — push through, or stop and call someone? Walk me through your thinking.
- Describe a project where the client had a very specific vision that didn't match the original plan. How did you handle the conversation and the execution?
- We value people who can work independently without constant check-ins. Tell me about a time you had to make a judgment call on-site with no one to ask — what was the situation, and how did it turn out?
- What does a tidy, safe worksite mean to you? Can you give me an example of how you keep your workspace organized, even when you're under time pressure?
- We're a tight-knit crew, and we've all got each other's backs. Tell me about a time you helped a teammate out on a job, or when someone helped you — what made that moment stick with you?
- How do you stay motivated
