About the Role: Responsibilities, Skills, and Requirements
Introduction
Ever wondered what it’s like to be the friendly face that starts every customer’s meal on a high note? We’re looking for a cashier to join our busy restaurant team in Mirdif, Dubai — and we mean right now. This isn’t just about tapping screens and handling bills; it’s about being the first and last impression our guests have. If you’re quick with numbers, warm with people, and ready to jump straight into a fast-paced kitchen environment, this could be your spot.
About the Company
We’re a well-loved dining spot in the heart of Mirdif, serving up everything from quick bites to full family feasts. Our team is a mix of nationalities, all brought together by one thing: a genuine love for good food and great service. The vibe here is busy but friendly — the kind of place where the cook knows your name, the manager checks in personally, and regulars walk in with a smile already on their face. We’re not a giant chain, and that’s exactly how we like it. We move fast, we laugh a lot, and we take pride in doing things properly.
What You’ll Be Doing (Responsibilities)
- Handling customer orders at the counter and through delivery partners, making sure every bill is accurate and every payment is processed smoothly — whether it’s cash, card, or QR code.
- Greeting guests warmly as they walk in, answering quick questions about the menu, and directing them to seats or takeaway counters.
- Keeping your station tidy and stocked — from receipt rolls to change in the drawer — so the shift never hits a snag.
- Working closely with the kitchen and serving staff to ensure orders are fulfilled without mix-ups, especially during rush hours.
- Balancing the cash register at the start and end of your shift, flagging any discrepancies right away.
- Occasionally helping with light front-of-house tasks when things get busy — clearing a table, folding takeaway bags, or checking on a customer’s order.
What You’ll Bring (Qualifications)
Must-Haves:
- Previous experience as a cashier, ideally in a restaurant, café, or quick-service environment.
- Currently in the UAE and ready to join immediately — no notice periods, no waiting around.
- Good command of English and Hindi — you’ll be chatting with customers from all over, and being able to switch between languages is a real plus.
- Comfortable handling cash and digital payments with speed and accuracy, even when there’s a queue building up.
- A positive, patient attitude — because a busy shift goes by much easier when you’re smiling.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience with POS systems like Square, Zoho, or similar.
- Basic knowledge of food safety or hygiene practices.
- A knack for remembering regular customers and their usual orders — it goes a long way here.
Not sure you tick every box? We’d still love to hear from you. If you’ve got the right attitude and a willingness to learn, we can work with the rest.
Why You’ll Love Working Here (Benefits & Perks)
- Full-time employment contract with a proper work visa — no freelancing, no grey areas.
- Medical insurance and other benefits provided as per UAE labour law.
- Meals on shift — you won’t be going hungry, that’s for sure.
- A supportive team culture where managers actually listen and the staff look out for each other.
- Opportunities to grow — we like promoting from within, so if you’ve got ambition, there’s room to move up.
- A stable, busy location in Mirdif with consistent footfall, so your shifts will always be lively.
At the end of the day, we’re not just looking for someone to sit behind a counter. We want a teammate who’ll fit right in, take ownership of their role, and maybe even crack a joke or two during the afternoon lull. If that sounds like you, we’d love to meet.
Common Interview Questions and Tips
To help you prepare and feel confident, here are some questions you might encounter during the interview process for this role.
- Walk me through how you’d handle a situation where a customer is disputing their bill and getting visibly frustrated — what’s your approach to keeping things calm and accurate at the same time?
- Can you describe your experience with POS systems like Square or Zoho? What’s the fastest you’ve had to work through a rush, and how did you keep errors from creeping in?
- How do you balance your till at the end of a shift? Walk me through your process for spotting and reporting a discrepancy — have you ever had to flag one before?
- Imagine it’s peak lunch hour, the queue is out the door, and two delivery drivers are waiting for orders that aren’t ready yet. How do you prioritise while still giving each customer a warm interaction?
- What would you do if you noticed a regular customer’s usual order was wrong when it came out of the kitchen — but they hadn’t noticed yet?
- Tell me about a time you had to switch between English and Hindi mid-conversation to help a customer. How did you manage that smoothly?
- We’re a busy spot, and sometimes you’ll be asked to clear a table or fold takeaway bags between orders. How do you feel about jumping into tasks that aren’t strictly “cashier” work when the team needs a hand?
- Can you share an example of a mistake you made in a previous cash-handling or payment role? What did you learn from it, and how did you fix it?
- How do you keep your energy up and stay friendly with customers when you’re several hours into a long, non-stop shift?
- What does “taking ownership” of your role mean to you, especially in a small, tight-knit team where everyone knows each other?
- We have a mix of nationalities on staff and customers from all over. How do you make sure everyone feels welcome
